Care Instructions

  • Do NOT consume alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours prior to treatment (alcohol may thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising)
  • Avoid anti-inflammatory/blood thinning medications, if possible, for a period of 2 weeks before treatment. Medications and supplements such as aspirin, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, St. John’s Wort, Omega 3/Fish Oil supplements, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve and other NSAIDS have a blood thinning effect and can increase the risk of bruising and swelling after injections.
  • Schedule your Botox/Dysport treatment at least 2 weeks prior to any special event you may be attending, such as a wedding or a vacation. Bruising and swelling may be apparent in that time period.
  • Reschedule your appointment at least 24 hours in advance if you have a rash, cold sore or blemish on the area that will be treated.
  • If you have a history of cold sores, please let your provider know. We may start you on an anti-viral medication prior to treatment.
  • Be sure to have a good breakfast, including food and drink before your procedure. This will decrease the chances of lightheadedness during your treatment.
  • You are NOT a candidate if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Do NOT manipulate the treated area for 4 hours following treatment.
  • Do NOT receive any laser/light treatments or aesthetic services such as facials/waxing/microdermabrasion/etc. for at least 2 weeks after injections.
  • Do NOT lie flat for 4 hours after your Botox/Dysport treatment. This will prevent the Botox/Dysport from tracking into the orbit of your eye and causing drooping eyelids.
  • Botox usually starts working around day 7 and Dysport is around day 3. If the desired result is not seen after 2 weeks of your treatment you may need additional Botox/Dysport. You will be charged for any product used during any enhancements or subsequent sessions.
  • Do NOT perform activities involving straining, heavy lifting, excessive sweating, or vigorous exercise for the remainder of the day.
  • You may wear makeup the next day.

FAQs

  • Botox and Dysport are different prescription medications that can be injected into muscles to temporarily improve the appearance of:
    • Frown lines, also known as “11” lines, between your eyebrows
    • Crow’s feet around your eyes that worsen when smiling
    • Forehead lines that worsen when elevating your eyebrows
  • Botox and Dysport are both made from Botulinum Toxin Type A. All botulinum toxins have the same mechanism of action: blocking the release of acetylcholine (ACh) and preventing the muscles from contracting to maintain the aesthetic effect. However, the dose of Dysport is not the same as the dose of Botox. Your provider will do the conversion for you. All prices and dosing will be conveyed in Botox equivalent units to keep things simplified.
  • The pricing is the exact same.
  • Dysport tends to take effect around day 3 or 4 versus day 7 with Botox.
  • Both products typically last the same duration of about 3-4 months with proper dosing.
  • A combination of factors can cause facial lines. It’s not just about the cellular changes that may occur, or reduction of collagen, or damage caused by free radicals from the sun and the environment.
  • Repeated muscle contractions from frowning, squinting, or raising eyebrows cause skin to furrow and fold, gradually resulting in the formation of facial lines.
  • Botox and Dysport works beneath the surface to temporarily reduce the underlying muscle activity that causes the lines to help them look visibly smoother.
  • During your consultation we will determine what is right for you based on your individual goals.
  • Your treatment dosing can vary from 20-60 units.
    • Frown lines, also known as “11” lines, between your eyebrows (9-25 units)
    • Crow’s feet around your eyes that worsen when smiling (5-15 units)
    • Forehead lines that worsen when elevating your eyebrows (5-15 units)
  • These are the most common areas injected, but other areas may be added on as needed.

  • The provider will discuss your treatment goals and perform a facial analysis to determine the appropriate treatment areas and dosing for you. The actual injection process takes only 10 minutes.
  • A gentle approach with the smallest needle possible is used to maximize comfort. Some patients report the injections feel like a pinch.
  • Treatment requires minimal downtime. See our care instructions for a detailed list to optimize your treatment.
