Care Instructions

  • Avoid any type of sun exposure/ tanning 3-4 weeks prior treatment or use at least SPF30 sunscreen.
  • Avoid irritant topical agents for 2-3 days before treatment.
  • Ensure that skin is clean upon arrival to clinic (no lotions/sunscreen/makeup).
  • Pigment IPL Treatments:
    • Browning or darkening of the skin pigment, and purplish or black tints to a dark pigment, as well as crusting of the pigmented area over a few days, may all occur as part of normal post-treatment healing. Crusting will flake off, and while erythema and edema may also appear, these symptoms will resolve in 3 to 7 days.
  • Vascular Lesion IPL Treatments:
    • Blanching, greying, or a deep purple tinting or blackening of the vessel may occur over the course of a few days as the damaged tissue will be broken down and absorbed. This may last approximately 3 to 7 days.
  • Acne IPL Treatments:
    • A deepening in color of the treated lesions, tenderness to the lesions (if cystic), blanching/greying of vessels/vascular scars, and intense edema and erythema may occur, lasting 5 to 10 days.
  • Swelling/Discomfort/Redness:
    • Significant swelling and redness may occur following your procedure for up to 24 – 48 hours.
    • It is not uncommon for patients to experience swelling in the under-eye area for the first 1 to 2 days post-treatment. This swelling will subside.
    • You may also experience some redness and slight warmth from the treatment area for the first 24 hours post-treatment, similar to a mild sunburn. This is a normal part of your skin’s post-treatment healing response. However, excessive or severe pain is unusual; if this occurs, immediately notify us.
  • Activity:
    • Post-treatment discomfort is mild, and you may immediately return to your regular activities. It is advised that you avoid hot baths, saunas, Jacuzzis, and pools for the first 2 days following treatment, as bacteria found in these environments could cause an infection. It is best to avoid applying ice or cooling compresses to the treated area, as warmth from the skin is the body’s natural healing response. However, if you are experiencing extreme heat or discomfort, you may use cold compresses to soothe the area.
  • Skin Care
    • Avoid sun exposure and use sunscreen for 3 weeks following each treatment session.
    • Moisturizer may be applied after each treatment.
    • Make-up may be applied immediately after the treatment if skin is intact.
  • Treatment Schedule
    • The number of treatments are typically varied from 2-5 sessions every 3-4 weeks.
    • Pigmented lesions usually require less sessions than vascular lesions.

FAQs

  • Have you started noticing small brown spots on your skin? If so, you’re not alone. Many patients who have spent extended time in the sun are vulnerable to experiencing accelerated signs of premature aging on their face, hands and decollate. These sunspots are a form of skin damage, and they represent one of the most common skin concerns. Fortunately, there’s a simple solution to improve your skin tone and restore a more youthful-looking complexion, a photofacial treatment.
  • Venus Concept’s IPL face treatment is a simple, non-surgical way to effectively target pigment under the skin’s surface to reduce the appearance of discoloration and premature aging. There is minimal discomfort and typically only some redness for about a day afterward. With an IPL photofacial, you can achieve noticeably brighter, clearer, and more youthful-looking skin. Each treatment also works on vascular marks, such as spider veins and capillaries. All it takes is a few quick treatments, each of which lasts about 15 to 20 minutes and fits easily into your busy schedule or even on a lunch break.
  • Venus Concept’s photofacial treatments are powered by Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology to safely and effectively fade common signs of premature aging, including sunspots, discoloration, and visible veins. IPL technology sends precise light through several layers of skin. This targets skin imperfections, correcting them without damaging any surrounding tissue.
